The tiny “località” of Coler, is a “frazione” (hamlet T.N.) of the municipality of Flero, a kilometer and a half away from the center of Flero, which is located in the Bassa bresciana. The small estate next to the home town of Andrea Pirlo’s father, Luigi Pirlo – estate that has become the head office of the farming company Pratum Coller – is located in the frazione of Flero, from which it takes its name. This patch of land near Brescia, only a few kilometers from the city, but surrounded by nature, has a long history behind it, that most likely goes back to the Roman period. In the “Enciclopedia Bresciana” by don Antonio Fappani, it is written: “Coler or Coller. Frazione of Flero, 99 meters above sea level, a kilometer and a half south of the village. The name is apparently dialectal for “Corylus”, filbert, a kind of hazelnut, that would suggest the presence of a hazel grove. According to others, it could come from the Latin “colere”-to cultivate”.
