At the beginning of the 1800's, the Gianfranceschi family, originally from the northern part of Lake Garda (then called Lake Benaco), moves several kilometres to the south and settles in Bardolino. At that time the Gianfranceschi farm was exclusively producing grapes, which they handed over to local wine producers. Around the year 1930 Pietro Gianfranceschi begins to produce wine, which he sells unbottled to private customers. At the beginning of the 70's the production increases and they begin to sell wine to other merchants, who bottle the wine and put it on to the market. In 1990 the turning point; the Farm takes the name of Azienda Agricola San Zeno and decides to bottle and sell the Bardolino classico wine which they produce. At present the Farm consists of 19 hectares of land, all in the classic area, where grapevines are cultivated with diverse methods and belong to various age categories. The cellars where the grapes are tranformed into wine, are still located in the original place, in Via San Zeno, a few steps from the town center of Bardolino. Nowadays the Company produces and bottles the classic Bardolino wine in all its varieties: Bardolino classico d.o.c.; Bardolino classico superior d.o.c.g.; Bardolino classico chiaretto; Bardolino chiaretto "spumante" (sparkling); two types of white wine: one from "garganega" grapes, purely fermented; another sparkling wine, also from "garganega" grapes; and a red wine, named "freudo" after the place of production, made only with "corvina" grapes. The Company also produces olive oil made with olives from its olive groves.
